25 JUNE - 3 JULY 2022 | Krakow Maiseh was the public art programme of the 31st edition of the Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow 2022. The word “maiseh” means “tale” in Yiddish (מייסע). In the frame of this project, artists from Germany, Israel and Poland reinterpreted legends from Krakow in the shape of site-specific performances, drawings, murals, sound installations, workshops and letters presented in the public space of Kazimierz, the historical Jewish district. Maiseh conceived of these stories as vehicles to grapple with loss, misfortune, betrayal and broken hearts, and tools to arm oneself with humor, hope, courage and love. The programme was an invitation to come together and tell stories that are meaningful beyond their local and historical context. Maiseh was presented in the frame of the 31st edition of the Jewish Culture Festival. The project was supported by the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation and Goethe Institute Krakau, and co-produced by HaMiffal Art Center Jerusalem.
