After 5 pm was a participatory public art project in the Czech town of Kutna Hora, which responded to the decline of public life that is experienced locally. Occupying a deserted storefront and billboard spaces, this participatory public art project intervened in the realm of the commercial with communality. It concerned itself with the question: When we bring private life into the public realm, does public life emerge? For ten days, five local inhabitants shared what they do in their free time through collective activities such as book readings, table football tournaments, concerts, calligraphy workshops and dancing lessons. After 5 pmtemporarily installed a performative space for community activities into the city center and explored what it could look like if there were a more active public life in Kutna Hora.
After 5 pm was initiated by the production platform Rekultur in cooperation with the Kutna Hora Performing Arts Festival, and curated by the Curatorial Collective for Public Art. The project was funded by the German-Czech Future Fund, State Culture Fund, Central Bohemian Region and Kreativ-Transfer, and co-produced by Theater X10 in Prague.
